Set in Halifax, North Carolina around 1949, this play dramatizes the unfortunate times of an African-American family, the Cheeks, and their encounter with a Jewish writer. Mrs. Cheeks is forced to overcome overwhelming odds in order to keep her family together after a racist placard is displayed at the entrance to a town in Mississippi.
