Join us Thursday, February 12, 2026, for James Hemings: Ghost in America’s Kitchen, the final film in Communities First, Inc.’s 11th Annual African American Film Series. This captivating documentary follows a curious chef uncovering the untold story of James Hemings, America’s first classically trained chef and the enslaved property of Thomas Jefferson. Discover how Hemings’ culinary genius helped shape American cuisine while exploring the complex legacy of freedom and creativity. The event takes place at the Flint Institute of Arts, 1120 E. Kearsley St., Flint, MI 48503, with dinner and live music beginning at 5:30 PM, the film at 6:45 PM, and a discussion panel to follow. Admission is free, with a suggested $5 donation.
