Description
Lake Sturgeon Release
Local, state and federal partners invite the public to participate in an event to reintroduce juvenile lake sturgeon into the Saginaw Bay Watershed. We’re thrilled to have this year’s marque event right here in Flint, at the Mott Park Recreation Area.
You are invited to see — and even get in the water to release — these prehistoric fish into the Flint River.
There also will be kid-friendly learning activities, including an invasive sea lamprey display.
The event is part of the Saginaw Bay Watershed Lake Sturgeon Restoration, an effort led by the DNR and partners to reestablish lake sturgeon in the Saginaw Watershed through the Cass, Shiawassee, Tittabawassee and Flint rivers. The lake sturgeon were reared at the USFWS National Fish Hatchery in Genoa, WI, and are about 5-7 inches in length. The adult source population for the lake sturgeon were collected near Port Huron.
Learn more about the lake sturgeon restoration efforts and additional partners on the Saginaw Bay Sturgeon website (www.saginawbaysturgeon.org).
Ribbon Cutting for the Mott Park Paddlers' Landing
At the same time, we also are celebrating the official ribbon cutting for the Paddlers' Landing at the Mott Park Recreation Area. This crowd funded landing wouldn't be possible without the massive outpouring of community support earlier this year. Come celebrate the successful completion of YOUR Paddlers' Landing.
