Department: Visitor Services 

Compensation: $14 per hour
Job Type: Temporary, part-time to full-time, non-exempt internship lasting until the end of the 2026 year. 
 
Position Overview: The Visitor Services Intern plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Visitor Services department at the Flint Children’s Museum. This position assists in guest services, answering visitor inquiries, and ensuring that the museum provides a positive and welcoming experience for all guests. Working alongside the Visitor Services Manager, the Visitor Services Intern will help coordinate the visitor services team, assist in managing day-to-day operations, and ensure that all visitor interactions are smooth, friendly, and efficient. This role is ideal for someone seeking to develop strong leadership skills, excellent customer service experience, and seeking experience in museum operations management.  
 
Key Responsibilities: Visitor Support & Engagement:
 • Assist in overseeing the front desk, greeting visitors, answering questions, and providing information about exhibits, programs, and museum policies. 
• Ensure all visitors have a positive and enjoyable experience, addressing any concerns or complaints promptly and professionally.
 • Provide direct support to guests with special needs or requests, ensuring a personalized and inclusive experience for everyone.
 • Assist in monitoring visitor flow and managing peak times to ensure a smooth and welcoming environment. 
 
Staff Supervision & Coordination: 
• Help train, supervise, and support the Visitor Services team, ensuring they are providing excellent customer service and following museum procedures. 
 • Assist in scheduling shifts for Visitor Services staff and volunteers, ensuring adequate coverage during operating hours.
• Support staff during events or programs, ensuring they are equipped with the resources and information they need.

Administrative & Operational Support:
• Assist the Visitor Services Manager with administrative tasks such as inventory management, tracking attendance, and maintaining the visitor log.
• Help with the processing of tickets, memberships, donations, and other transactions using the museum’s point-of-sale system.
• Assist in preparing and distributing visitor information, including brochures, maps, and promotional materials.

Event and Program Support:
• Provide support for special events, workshops, and educational programs, ensuring that visitor services are well-coordinated.
• Assist in the preparation and breakdown of event spaces, ensuring everything is set up for a smooth event experience.

Health & Safety:
• Ensure all visitor services areas are clean, organized, and well-maintained.
• Help ensure that museum safety procedures are followed, including emergency protocols and security procedures.
• Report any maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate team members.

Qualifications and Skills: • High school diploma or GED required; a degree in hospitality, museum studies, or a related field is a plus. • Must be a resident of the City of Flint.  • Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, or visitor services is required; supervisory experience is a plus. • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse group of visitors, including families and children. • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude. Inspiring a lifelong love for learning through exploration and hands-on play. • Strong organizational and time-management skills. • Comfortable using point-of-sale systems, phone systems, and other office equipment. • Flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
