Manufacturing continues to play a large and significant role in the region, even as the region’s economy diversifies. Moreover, many of the region’s manufacturers are seeking more workers with the technical skills that can lead to significant earnings and advancement. The need for more manufacturing talent is the focus of the upcoming Manufacturing Talent Workshop, presented by the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce and the Flint & Genesee Manufacturing Coalition, the forum will bring together employers and educators to develop an action plan to tackle the unmet technical career openings in the area. This free event takes place June 11, from 8-9:30 a.m., in Room 1301 at Mott Community College’s Regional Technology Center, 1401 E. Court Street, in Flint. Representatives from the Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN) will present the new Middle Skills Report and moderate a panel discussion with local education partners about the availability of career and technical training programs in Flint and Genesee. Participants will also gain valuable insight regarding the Community Ventures program of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) as well as the Chamber’s TeenQuest and Summer Youth Initiative programs.
