Description
A workshop for adults designed to help you care for yourself, so that you are able to more effectively support and care for students.
About this Event
Out-of-school time (OST) professionals assume major responsibility in helping young people understand, process, and heal from the significant events that are occurring in the world today. To effectively support students, adults need to feel connected, supported, valued and capable of taking on the challenges ahead. This virtual Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) workshop for adults will help you create working conditions (e.g., time, space, professional learning) and well-designed opportunities to engage in self-care, develop supportive staff relationships and build your capacity for promoting students’ SEL through equitable learning environments. The two breakout sessions will guide you through the following activities:
- Allowing space for connection and healing among adults
- Ensuring access to mental health and trauma supports
- Identifying opportunities for innovation.
- Providing embedded strategies for informed responses.

Breakout Sessions:
Every Monday Matters Session
Allowing Space for Connection and Healing Among Adults
Presenters: Jocelyn Guansing and Matthew Emerzian, Every Monday Matters
Weikart Session
As adults, our ability to support young people in identifying and managing their emotions starts with our ability to do the same. In this experiential workshop, participants will deepen their understanding of how people interpret and feel emotions; how they personally experience hot buttons and emotional activation; and explore self-regulation.
Presenter: Alandra Chuney, David P. Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality
