CT Tech
GENERAL SUMMARY: Operates computed tomography (CT) scanner to produce cross-sectional radiographs of patient's body for diagnostic purposes. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
1. Schedules and prepares patient for CT and CT guided/assisted procedures. Loads film holders and cassettes. Images and processes CT studies. Confirms delivery to PACS system.
2. Performs CT exams and CT-guided/assisted procedures. Positions patients to best visualize anatomic area of interest. Transports patient to/from department/rooms. Provides and respects ability, comfort, physical, psychological, and educational needs of patients.
3. Under authority of physician, administers intravenous media and/or medications. Inserts urethral catheters. Monitors patient. Observes patient for reactions and responds appropriately.
4. Promptly and accurately charges for procedures and supplies. Makes necessary entries to department and/or medical center information systems. Documents patient training/education in computer systems.
5. Marks and processes images for delivery to PACS system.
6. Operates computerized equipment necessary to perform duties.
7. Requisitions and maintains adequate inventory of necessary drugs and supplies.
8. Assists in in-service of newly hired departmental personnel. Supervises, instructs, and evaluates radiology students in CT techniques. Provides oversight, instructs, and assists in evaluation of trainees.
9. Assists in cleaning procedure rooms and equipment. Makes simple repairs as required.
10. May perform work of Registered Diagnostic Radiological Technologist.
11. Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react effectively and treat (if appropriate) unique needs of patient age groups served.
12. Performs other duties as required. Utilizes new improvements and/or technologies that relate to job assignment.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
· High School graduate and/or GED equivalent.
· Completion of a recognized educational program in Diagnostic Radiology.
· Six (6) months of work experience as a registered Radiologic Technologist performing CT exams.
· Working knowledge of the methods and techniques of diagnostic imaging, including positioning patients, adjusting and operating equipment, and processing images.
· Knowledge of human anatomy as related to CT imaging.
· Knowledge of effective methods and techniques in administering CT x-rays, the hazards involved for equipment operators and patients, and effective precautionary measures.
· Ability to maintain records and files of photographic work.
· Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with physicians, patients, the public, and other Medical Center personnel.
· Must obtain BLS certification upon start of position and must maintain certification per AHA guidelines.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
· Registration by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) as a Radiologic Technologist and a Computed Tomography Technologist.
