The main entrance to the Hunger Solution Center is located just past the railroad tracks on Howard Avenue. Please GPS directions to 1939 Howard Avenue to access the public parking lot.
About Us
The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan serves as the Food Source for over 415 hunger-relief organizations throughout 22 Michigan counties.
Once food arrives at the Food Bank, it is sorted, inspected and made available to partner agencies such as churches, soup kitchens, and food pantries to distribute to those in need. All Food Bank partner agencies are required to distribute food, without charges or fees, to needy clients.
The Food Bank procures food from surpluses in the grocery industry. For example, if Kellogg’s produces more Rice Krispies than it sells, then somewhere there is a warehouse full of cereal with a date stamped on each box. When that date passes…the food is still good to eat, but can not be sold.
Because of partnerships with grocers, distributors and food manufacturers the Food Bank is able to leverage purchasing power so that every $1 donated equals 6 meals for those in need. The Food Bank holds a 4-star rating with Charity Navigator and 98% of all donations go directly to programs that support the mission to fight hunger in eastern Michigan.
